Celebrate 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh at Cranleigh Arts with a special talk by James Campbell, exploring the inspirations behind A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard’s beloved characters.
In celebration of 100 years of Winnie-The-Pooh, join James Campbell, author of The Men Who Created Winnie-The-Pooh,as he takes us on a journey to discover some of the influences and inspirations behind A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard’s iconic creation. This unique opportunity takes us through their personal and professional relationships, to the evolution of the bear we all came to know during our childhoods.
It opens Shepard’s sketchbook to reveal how he brought Winnie-The-Pooh and his friends to life, crafting some of the most widely recognized children’s characters.With previously unseen drawings from the Shepard archive, this is something for all Pooh fans, young and old, and not to be missed.
Cranleigh Arts will also be hosting an exhibition of E.H. Shepard’s work in our Gallery space.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A session with the author. James is married to E.H. Shepard’s great-granddaughter and has had responsibility for the oversight of E.H. Shepard’s artistic and literary estate since 2010. He has also authored The Art of Winnie-The-Pooh and Shepard’s War. He lives in Oxford.
