about this event
Guildford Jazz Presents…The Christian Garrick Quartet
“…brilliant – musical intelligence, humour, sharpness, swing, superb improvisational skills – they have it all.” – The Guardian
Christian Garrick is simply the world’s finest jazz violinist. With a worldwide performance schedule, he is as at home in a South Bank recital hall performing with great friend Nigel Kennedy, in a studio recording the soundtrack to a Bond film, performing with Wynton Marsalis, Dolly Parton, or a downtown jazz club.
His versatility is legendary, and he is much feted, much recorded, much in demand! He plays all the jazz violin styles from Stuff Smith via Stephane Grappelli to Jean Luc Ponty and convinces in all of them before adding in elements of rock, folk and classical for good measure.
With David Gordon on piano, whose performances with Christian highlight the quick-fire energy and the telepathic connection between them, plus the brilliant Tom Hooper on drums, and Marianne Windham on bass.
An unforgettable evening of breathtaking skill and playful improvisation. From soulful jazz to spellbinding acoustic moments, this is virtuosic musicianship at its finest - up close, relaxed, and right in the heart of Cranleigh!
Early booking is strongly advised.
